Gross pay before tax and deductions. Enter fewer weeks to account for unpaid time off.
Comparing an hourly job to a salaried one, or just want to know what your wage adds up to over a year? This calculator converts an hourly rate into weekly, monthly and annual pay based on how many hours and weeks you work.
Adjust the weeks per year to account for unpaid time off, and you'll get a realistic picture rather than a best-case figure.
The Hourly to Salary formula
Annual salary = Hourly rate × Hours per week × Weeks worked per yearHourly rate = your pay per hour · Hours per week = weekly hours worked · Weeks worked = paid weeks in the year (often 52). Divide the annual figure by 12 for monthly or by 52 for weekly pay.
Worked example
At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week for 52 weeks: 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year, which is about $4,333 a month or $1,000 a week — all before tax.
How the conversion works
Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks worked per year. A standard full-time year is often taken as 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours.
If you take unpaid leave, reduce the weeks worked. Remember the result is gross pay — before income tax, benefits and other deductions.
Frequently asked questions
▶How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by the number of weeks you work per year. For $25/hour full-time that's 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000.
▶Is the result before or after tax?
It's gross pay, before income tax and deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower depending on your tax situation.
▶What is a $25 an hour salary per year?
At full time (40 hours × 52 weeks), $25/hour is 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year before tax. Fewer hours or unpaid weeks lower that figure.
▶How do I convert an annual salary back to an hourly rate?
Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year. A $60,000 salary over 2,080 hours (40 × 52) is 60,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $28.85 an hour.
▶How many working hours are in a year?
A standard full-time year is often taken as 2,080 hours — 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Subtract paid holidays or unpaid leave for a more precise figure.
▶How do I account for overtime or part-time hours?
Adjust the hours per week to match what you actually work. The conversion multiplies your rate by those hours and by the weeks worked, so part-time and overtime both flow through.
